Recently, the Bethel School District was accused of violating its contract with the Bethel Education Association (BEA). A grievance, filed in April by the BEA, alleged wrongdoing in the district’s handling of the recent Reduction in Force (RIF).

A hearing examiner reviewed the case and found the district had followed the BEA contract and that no violations occurred.

We want to assure our community that we take our contractual obligations very seriously. Although the RIF has been a painful process for everyone involved, the district has an obligation to follow the contract. We must take actions to ensure that the district remains viable and financially sound, even in the most difficult of times. We will continue to follow the contract to ensure that the rights of all BEA staff are protected.
