Dear Elk Plain Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child(ren) to Elk Plain School of Choice K-8 for the 2015-2016 school year. My name is Chad Honig and I am honored to be the principal at Elk Plain. I come to you with 17 years of experience in the Bethel School District, most recently as Principal of Thompson Elementary. Prior to Thompson, I served as an Assistant Principal at Frontier Middle School and Centennial Elementary. I began my teaching career at Clover Creek Elementary and taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade for 8 years. I am also a parent of two children who were Elk Plain Sky Warriors.
I feel extremely fortunate to be able to work alongside the amazing Elk Plain staff! If you are a returning family, you already know what a great school we have. Due to our strong partnership between school and home, new families to Elk Plain will find our school an outstanding place to be. We recognize that this partnership will make a great difference in your child’s education; and as partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to follow through with our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
This year we are implementing a new English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum; Ready Gen. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher with questions about our new materials. We will continue to use the Eureka Math (Engage NY) curriculum as it is highly aligned to the CCSS. The district's decision to implement these new curricula is in response to our newly adopted and rigorous Common Core State Standards. We will create opportunities to help you learn about Ready Gen throughout the school year.
On behalf of the Elk Plain Staff, we look forward to an amazing school year and thank you for trusting us with your child(ren)’s education.
Chad Honig, Principal
