Medications at School

For the safety and welfare of our students and staff, district policies and procedures regarding medications at school must be followed.

Over the past week, there have been at least three emergencies in the Bethel School District where students who required medication did not have their medications at school.

Washington state law requires that every child with a life-threatening condition have a medication and/or treatment order on file, before school starts. Life-threatening conditions may include, but are not limited to: diabetes, severe allergies and asthma.

School nurses are in the process of reviewing their files. Students who are not in compliance may be excluded from school until these requirements are met.

Parents of students who suffer from life-threatening conditions should immediately contact their school to make sure that the proper plans and medications are in place.
