Grade Reconfiguration

Board studies middle schools

A decision to switch from junior highs to middle schools is on hold.

The Bethel School Board decided in May that it wanted more time to study the issue.

The district held a series of study sessions this spring to review the costs, as well as the pros and cons of switching from a junior high (grades 7-9) to a middle school (grades 6-8) model. If the board were to adopt the middle school philosophy, school grade configurations would need to change, districtwide.

A final decision from the board is expected next year.
