Arts Education

"Piano Man"

The arts thrive in Bethel School District! Research shows that arts education is a vital link to critical thinking and creativity. Through participation in the arts, our students make connections within and across all art forms, other disciplines, various cultures, all aspects of life, and the world of work.

Bethel offers many arts programs that provide students with opportunities to be artistically literate, to use artistic processes, to think creatively, and to solve problems. Our students may choose from a variety of classes and extracurricular offerings including band, choir, dance, theatre, general music, orchestra, and visual art.

Bethel School District boasts a host of award-winning performing arts groups. Music, theatre, and dance groups all thrive in our schools. Our Festivals for the 2011/12 school year include:

  • District Art Festival on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Spanaway Lake High School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • District Choral Festival Rehearsal (Elementary Choirs only) on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Bethel High School gymnasium during the school day. (Secondary Choirs will rehearse during the day on March 28 at PLU’s Olson Auditorium)
  • District Choral Festival Performance on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Pacific Lutheran University’s Olson Auditorium beginning at 6:30 p.m.
  • District Orchestra Festival on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Spanaway Lake High School beginning at 7 p.m.
  • District Band Festival: Due to the remodeling of PLU’s Olson Auditorium during the spring of 2012, the District Band Festival involving bands from every school will be held during three separate Festivals at each high school involving feeder elementary and junior highs. Watch for more details and dates to come.

Check the online district calendar for individual school performances.
