Supplementary Education Services (SES) is a Federal Title I program requirement for schools who are in improvement for 3 years or more. There are 8 Bethel schools that qualified to receive SES in 2010/11 year: Centennial, Camas Prairie, Evergreen, Rocky Ridge, Roy, Shining Mountain, Spanaway, or Thompson Elementary.
- SES is free tutoring services for eligible students that attend a qualifying school provided by an approved, contracted service.
- The tutoring does not take place during the school day. Providers indicate if they provide on-line, after school or weekend times and the locations.
- The SES Provider List is a list of approved providers from OSPI –
- Parents must select their choice of SES Providers from this list. The list given to our parents shows the approved providers that may serve the Bethel School District.
- Packets are sent home to families on during the first full week of school. Copies of the SES packet are also available in the special services office.
- Parents must fill out the application and return it prior to the deadline - November 5.
For a student to qualify to receive SES in the Bethel School District:
- Students must attend one of these Bethel schools: Centennial, Camas Prairie, Evergreen, Rocky Ridge, Roy, Shining Mountain, Spanaway, or Thompson.
- The student must qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. The application must be completed each year and processed through the District Nutrition Services and they notify families if they qualify or not. *Free/reduced applications are in the parent packet or in the school office.
- The application must be returned with the parents’ top two choices of providers and their signature requesting SES.
- We cannot proceed with SES until the student’s free/reduced lunch application is processed and nutrition services indicates that they qualify.
- If the student qualifies, the school district will then provide information to the parent’s 1st choice of SES providers - so they can contact the parents to set up the tutoring services. Parents work directly with the provider from that point. (The 2nd choice is used if the 1st choice cannot provide service to the student).
- Bethel School District is not and SES provider. The SES providers must apply with the State Office (OSPI) in April and those that are approved by the State are on the list. They are all independent contractors.
- Bethel School District does not “recommend” any provider. If parents ask, we can provide information about what services the providers offer, service location and other information about the provider that is available from the provider list.
- SES is a limited amount of tutoring. The State of Washington (OSPI) sets a “maximum” amount of money allowed for tutoring for each SES student. The amount available per student is set by the State Office (OSPI) according to the Federal funding. *If a family chooses a more expensive provider - there will be fewer tutoring sessions during the year for the student.
