Amanda Noll visited several elementary schools in Bethel as one of the nominees for Washington Children’s Choice with her first book I Need My Monster. Noll was born in Australia and immigrated to the United States as a teenager. She has four children and is currently working on her sequel to I Need My Monster. She lives in our Bethel community and was more than generous to visit schools to share her work. Her book was a runner-up in the 2011 Children’s Choice. Thompson Elementary, Pioneer Valley and Clover Creek want to express gratitude for Noll’s appearance, and congratulations for her runner-up win in Children’s Choice! Photos courtesy of Kimberly Derting’s Website Cougar Mountain Junior High had a special appearance from Kimberly Derting in November. Kimberly Derting is author of The Body Finder and Desires of the Dead. The anticipated novel, The Pledge, will be revealed November 15, 2011! Kimberly was born and mostly raised in the Seattle area, where she says she gets her inspiration for dark and gloomy novels. In her series, The Body Finder, her character Violet can sense dead bodies that have been murdered; this puts her in incredibly dangerous and mysterious situations. The Pledge deals with a society broken by class and power, in which her character Charliana has a hidden secret that could put her in deep trouble. Cougar Mountain thanks Kimberly Derting for her visit, and Bethel looks forward to her new book this November! For more information on Kimberly Derting, visit her website.

Image from www.livingvoices.org Bethel Junior High, Cougar Mountain Junior High, and Liberty Junior High sponsored the presentation of “Through the Eyes of a Friend” to support Communication Arts classes for 8th grade. “Through the Eyes of a Friend” shows the world of Anne Frank through a fictional best friend of Anne. Staying faithful to Anne’s life and story, Sarah shared testimonies and stories from history to portray Anne’s life that occurred during WWII. The presentation was through Living Voices, a live performance of history.
