Diversity

The Bethel School District strongly promotes an appreciation for cultural awareness and a respect for differences among individuals. To promote these values, the district created the position of “diversity facilitator” in 2005. Nick Jones serves in this position.

His job includes investigating/mediating racial or other equity complaints at schools; conducting diversity trainings with students/staff to build awareness; and meeting with community groups to solicit input on programs, problems and solutions.

The district sponsors a “diversity partnership” with a group of about 20 district staff and community members to promote greater understanding of multiculturalism throughout the school system. Bethel also offers diversity grants each year to encourage teachers and staff members to pursue activities that build awareness. See the separate links for more information on these.
