NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT
The No Child Left Behind Act requires that all Title I Paraeducators are Highly Qualifed.
What does this mean?
In order for a Paraeducator or Substitute Paraeducator to work in a Schoolwide Title I building or in a Title I position you must meet one of the following options:
- Have an Associate Degree
- Have 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits of Higher Education; 100 level or above
- By passing the ETS Parapro Assessment; scoring 461 or higher

Washington State Core Competencies
Washington State requires that all Special Education Paraeducators must complete the 14 Core Competencies.
These competencies are available in three groups:
- Competencies 1 - 6, available online
- Competencies 7-11 & 13, available online
- Competencies 12 & 14, available through Special Services
