Soccer: Congratulations to our boys soccer them for their 3-1 win over Emerald Ridge. Goals were made by Cole Baker and Jacob Baker with assists by Puarsa Kamalian and Justin Hamilton.

 

Talent Show:  You don't want to miss ...GK's GOT TALENT!!  Make sure to come out tonight for our annual GK Talent Show.  The show starts at 6:30pm and doors open at 5:45!  The cost is $1 w/ ASB or $2 without.  Come early, last year was standing room only by the time the show starts!  See you there!

 

Canned Food Drive: Continue to bring in canned food and non-perishable items to your first period for our canned food drive. Good luck to our elite 8.

 

Pennies for Patients: Our Key Club sponsored Pennies for Patients fundraiser ends today. You can donate at the ASB office. 

 

Paris/Barcelona Trip: Attention Paris/Barcelona travelers, there will be a final mandatory meeting on Friday, Mar. 24th in portable 16. You will receive a backpack along with other things you need for the trip. Bring a copy of your passport if you haven’t already.

 

Withdrawing Students: Students, if you know that you are moving or going to another school before or during Spring Break, please come to the counseling center and let them know you are withdrawing. You will nee to return your ipad and books prior before you leave.

Cavalcade of Authors: Students, the deadline for signing up for the Cavalcade of Authors is this Friday, March 17th. There are only a few slots left. Hurry. Pay your money. Sign up.

 

Fashion Club: Fashion Club is having a meeting in room 177 on Tuesday, Mar. 21st to plan Friday’s fashion show. Be there!

 

Pennies for Patients: Our Key Club sponsored Pennies for Patients fundraiser runs through March 22nd.  We are collecting change and cash to go towards curing Lymphoma and Leukemia. Money will be collected periodically during lunches and careers or you can donate at the ASB office.

Jewelry Club: There will be an interest meeting for GK's New Jewelry Club-The Wire Benders on Thursday March 9th from 2-4.  All current and former Jewelry Students are welcome.  

 

GK Late Night: Friday is our 1st GK Late Night from 7-10pm.  Come join us for a night of basketball, ping pong, pool, a movie and food!  Cost is $2 w/ ASB and $3 w/o ASB.  Be sure to bring ID as all students must be from GK to attend the late night.

Charity Volleyball: Dig the change has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict. Look for it again in the spring!

 

Canned Food Drive: Our annual GK March Madness canned food drive starts up on Monday March 6th and competitions will run through April. Bring your canned foods or non-perishable items to your first period classroom. The winning class will get doughnuts, hot chocolate, and the coveted Canned Food Drive trophy!!

 

Running Start: There is a Running Start interest meeting for students in the auditorium on Monday, March 6th during study support.  A parent interest meeting is Tuesday, March 7th at 6:30 pm at Spanaway Lake High School.

Spring Sports: Spring sports, Boys Soccer, Track, Baseball and Girls Fastpitch, Lacrosse, Track and Tennis starts this Monday, Feb. 27th. Only students will eligibility clearance can turn out on Monday.

 

Diploma Names: Seniors… Your orange diploma name cards are past due. This information is used for the diploma and graduation program. If you haven’t turn one into the office yet do it ASAP.

Charity Volleyball: Join us at Dig the Change, a volleyball tournament to raise money for education in developing world countries. Dig the Change is on Friday, March 3rd from 5-7pm in the gym. Admission is $1 with ASB and $2 without. All proceeds go toward the ME to WE charity.

Diploma Names: Seniors… if you haven’t already, complete and returned your orange diploma name card.  They are due TODAY.  It is also very important to make sure your information is written clearly and correctly. This information is used for the diploma and graduation program.

 

Fashion Club: Are you interested in planning, modeling, or designing? Fashion Club is having meetings on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd during study support and after school. There will be treats! Everyone is welcome.

Wrestling: Congrats to our GK wrestlers for advancing on from Regionals to State this next weekend. Noah Cortez, Chad Simonson, and Chris Sparks were all finalists with Chris becoming Regional Champ. On the girls’ side Gali Valencia, Stephanie Thacker, and Ashley Fleitman are all advancing to State.

 

Music Honors: Congratulations to all of the students that participated in the Mountain Region instrumental solo and ensemble contest this past Saturday.  The GK students made it a great day and played very well. The following students qualified for and will be representing GK at the state contest: Mao Oizumi, Chaiya Odle, Madison Bronson, Zarahfina Garcia, Frank Saxton, Athena Lee, Tanner Bennett, Alexis Chouinard, Vanessa Rodriguez, Nathan Chandler, the GK Wind Ensemble Brass Quintet, GK Trumpet Trio, GK Wind Ensemble Clarinet Choir, and the GK Percussion Duet. Congratulations!

GK Pink Out: Tuesday is Pink Out for Valentine's Day.  Wear pink. If you want to buy your GKHS Pink Out Shirt, they are available today and Monday at lunches for only $8!

 

Eagle Buddies: EAGLE BUDDIES, we will NOT be rescheduling our Valentines event from this past Tuesday.  Our next Eagle Buddies event will be our movie night in March.

Girls Wrestling:  Congratulations to the GK Girls Wrestling team for placing 2nd at Sub Regionals out of 20 teams: We have four champions in which all won their championship matches with pins: Kailey Christoph, Gali Valencia, Abbey Copeland, Stephanie Thacker. Ashley Fleitman took 3rd and Brittany Discolo took 6th. We have 5 moving on to regionals and 1 alternate.  Regionals is on Friday and Saturday @ Decatur HS. 

 

HOSA: All HOSA members please come to room 169 during study support today and Friday for an important meeting.

 

Spring Musical: Come audition for GK's musical Once Upon a Mattress, which is the musical version of the Princess and the Pea. Auditions are this week, in the auditorium after school. Come grab an audition packet from the auditorium doors before hand.

Football: Football players planning to play next year should come to a meeting today during study support in the weight room.

 

After School Hours: Students are not allowed to be in the building during non-school hours unless under the supervision of a staff member (see pg. 61 of handbook). Please leave the building after school unless you have a scheduled time arranged with a teacher, coach or detention.

 

Robotics: Robotics is meeting today in the shop. Please be there if you are part of the robotics team.

 

Heritage Club: Heritage club will be meeting today in P18 with Mr. Domínguez. Be sure to have an ASB card to be a club member.

 

GSA:  GSA is cancelled today.

Bowling: Congratulations to our girls bowling team who have been crowned the 4A Washington State Academic Champions with an average GPA of 3.673.

 

Girls Basketball: C-team girls basketball secured a victory over Emerald Ridge 28-25.  It was a back and forth game highlighted by Kennedy Burkman's 7 fourth quarter points and stellar defense from Olivia Wilkins in the post.   A couple of steals by Criscerica late sealed the victory.  Great work ladies.

Ed. students in a rivalry basketball game between Bethel, Spanaway Lake and GK!  The first 100 people will get a free piece of pizza.  Admission is free and there will be a free raffle for some awesome gift cards!  Don’t miss this great event!

Pack the Gym:  Our third annual Pack the Gym is tomorrow Wednesday, Feb. 1st at 6:30pm, here at GK.  Come out to support our ILC and Gen. Ed. students in a rivalry basketball game between Bethel, Spanaway Lake and GK!  The first 100 people will get a free piece of pizza.  Admission is free and there will be a free raffle for some awesome gift cards!  Hope to see you all there!

Athletics: Congratulations to Marilyn Perez for qualifying for the State Bowling Tournament and to our GK cheer team for their 4th place win at the State Competition this past weekend. Great job ladies.

Poetry Out Loud: Congratulations to Samantha Birch the GK School winner for Poetry Out Loud. Samantha will be representing us at the Regional Poetry Out Loud contest in February. The runner up is Lily Scott. All eighteen of this year's contestants did a fabulous job with their poems. It was a very inspiring event.

 

Eagle Enquirer: Students, check your school email for the most recent edition of the Eagle Enquirer. Interested in journalism or photojournalism? The Eagle Enquirer will have a mandatory interest meeting during study support today and tomorrow for the next edition of the newspaper with Mrs. Schulze in room 202 to choose article assignments!

 

PSAT Scores: PSAT Scores are here. Counselors will be in the commons for all three lunches today to give out PSAT score reports or stop by the Counseling Center.

Girls Basketball: Girls C-team basketball earned their 2nd victory of the week defeating Bellarmine 30-28 last night.  Cris Reyes' 3 point shooting and Kennedy Burkmann's aggressive drives to the hoop led the Eagle's offense.  Grace Butler and Shayla Fanony played great defense in the win.

Congratulations to the girl's bowling team for their impressive win last night against Olympia. They set a new school record by bowling a score of 882 for the first game and a overall score of 1910 for the match. High games were bowled by: Jeneveve Orozco with a 160, Hannah Wright with a 167, Marilyn Perez with a 190, Miranda Stallman with a 166 and 193, and Bella DeWilde with a 186 and a 199. Great job ladies.

Volleyball: Congratulations to our GK Volleyball team who beat Camas Saturday to qualify for the State Playoffs this week.

Native American Heritage Month: Did you know that there are 29 federally recognized tribes in the state of Washington?  That doesn’t include the Duwamish tribe, who still fight for recognition, even though the city of Seattle was named after the Duwamish Chief Sealth.

Native American Heritage Month: November is Native American Heritage month. In 1915, Red Fox James, a Native American from the Blackfeet tribe, launched an initiative seeking a day to honor Native Americans in the United States.  Red Fox rode on horseback from Montana to Washington D.C. gathering support along the way from 24 state Governors.  Red Fox's historic ride paved the way for recognition of Native Americans and ultimately resulted in official recognition by many states, and then by the federal government in 1990 when President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November "Native American Heritage Month."

Boys Cross Country: Congratulations to Jesse Kaas for qualifying for the state x-country championship race next Saturday in Pasco! He runs at 2:30 and tickets are $8. Mr. Zackula will give 27 extra credit points for students that make the trip to Pasco for the race. Go to portable 7 for more details.

 

Girls Swimming: Congratulations to Anna Beckstead, Alexus Foster, Victoria Vollmer and Pauline Baer, they qualified for the finals on Saturday and broke the school records in the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay. Anna Beckstead, qualified for finals in the 100 breaststroke breaking the school record. She also broke the school record in the 50 freestyle and qualified as an alternate. Great Job Ladies!!!!

 

Girls Bowling: All girls going out for the bowling team, Today is the 1st practice. Please meet in the commons by the counseling center at 2:05. The team will go to the bus together around 2:15.

X-Country: Congratulations to the Boy's Cross-country team for an outstanding performance yesterday at the Conference Meet, qualifying to compete at the District Meet next week!  Jesse Kaas led the charge, finishing 9th overall, followed by Trent Mork, Hunter Cooper, Kade Duncanson, Zach Noble, Paursa Kamalian, and Casey Webber.  On the girls' side, Amber Kreier also qualified to compete at the District meet.  NICE JOB ATHLETES!

Swim: Congratulations to the Girls Swim team. There were several personal best times posted at the Qualifiers Meet. Qualifying for post season are Anna Beckstead, Alexus Foster, Victoria Vollmer, Pauline Baer, Genesis Puckett, Bailee Joubert, Aubrie Winkler and Angie Lim. PSAT:  The PSAT test is scheduled for Wednesday October 19th. The PSAT is for 10th and 11th grade students only.  The fee is $17.  If you are on free and reduced lunch and in 11th grade, please show your free lunch letter to the ASB office to waive the fee.  The fee waiver is only available for 11th grade students. Please see your counselor if you have any questions.

Video Production: The Video Production club is looking for a news anchor for the GK Daily. Come by room 175 on October 20th and 21st to try out.

Homecoming Dance: The Homecoming dance is this Saturday, 8pm.!  Tickets are $15 with ASB and $22 w/o.  All fines must be paid and If you are failing one class, you need to make a plan with your teacher to be able to attend the dance.  Guest passes are due by Wednesday. On Saturday, all students must have ID with them to enter the dance.

Coat Donations: Graham Kapowsin DECA is sponsoring a coat and warm clothing drive.  All donations are for the Nativity House Homeless Shelter.  Please drop your donations off in the student store or room 152.  We will be accepting donations for 2 weeks.

Schedule Concerns: The last day to turn in a Schedule Concern Form is Friday, September 9 at 2:30 pm.  Today is the last day to pick up a form.  A parent signature is required.

 

Dance Team: Fall Dance team starts practice on Tuesday September 13th 2:20-4:20. We are looking for more girls and guys interested in being part of our fall season. See Mrs. Smith in Portable 12 and turn in your physical and sports eligibility paperwork online. No experience necessary.

 

GSA: Our first meeting of the GSA will take place on Thursday September 15th at 2:15 in room 176. Come be a part of our GK Gay Straight Alliance club.

Sports:  Congratulations to our girls’ golf and volleyball teams for their wins last night. Great job ladies. Come watch our GK Cross-Country teams compete today at Frontier Park. Girls Varsity starts at 4:30 and boys at 5pm.

 

Drama Club: Interested in finding out about the Fall play? Come to the first Drama Club meeting after school today in the Auditorium. We will announce the Fall play, hand out audition packets, and talk about some exciting things that we'll be doing this year. Remember anyone is welcome to join Drama Club at any time all year - just show up!

 

Ipads:  Students remember you must have ALL your paperwork signed and returned before you will be issued your i-pad.  Be sure your parents have completed all pages and include your insurance receipt.

Sports:  Congratulations to our GK athletes for jobs well done this week. Our girls golf team won against So. Kitstap 64-34 and our Varsity and JV football both had big wins against So. Kitsap on Friday. Great job athletes!   Today our boys & girls golf go up against Curtis at 3:15pm and girls soccer also plays Curtis at Viking Stadium. Finally our volleyball team plays Bethel High School at Bethel 7:15pm. Come out and sport our teams.

Happy Friday Eagles!

 

Sports:  Our first home football game is tonight, 7pm, at Art Crate Stadium. Our GK Eagles take on South Kitsap High School. Good luck athletes!  And don’t miss our varsity girls’ soccer game also against South Kitsap on Saturday, 7:30pm at Art Crate. Tickets for both events are free with ASB and $6 without. See you there!

Coming To & From Portables: Coming to and from the portables? Use the common doors during passing period when possible. The only people who should be going into the back doors are those in the 250 hall, music, and 170 halls. Hopefully this will reduce some congestion.

 

ASB:  If you took your id picture on Get Your Stuff day and did not pick up your card. They are waiting for you in the main office. Please pick yours up at lunch.

 

Parking: Parking in the back lot is for staff only. NO STUDENTS, including zero hour. Parking permits will be available soon in the main office. Listen for further updates.

 

Labor Day:  Monday, September 5th is Labor Day. There is no school. Enjoy your weekend and see you on Tuesday!
