Meet the Superintendent

With each passing year, Bethel Schools continue to grow and achieve.

In fact, Bethel has become one of the most improved large districts in Washington. Our work is not done. There is still need for more improvement and we will not be satisfied until we are the best.

Our Board of Directors is committed to exploring expanded options for students and support for teaching and learning. We are recruiting and retaining the best teachers we can, while providing them with award winning professional development. Programs like Advanced Placement, STEM, and robotics have engaged and energized students. This year’s switch to four-year high schools and middle schools will only further support our students’ success. We are proud to host the Pierce County Skills Center, which now offers some of the best Career Technical Education in the county.

With the support of our voters, half of our schools are new or completely modernized. Buildings are recognized as being energy efficient with excellent technology to support student learning. Exceptional staff, design innovation, accountability, and conservation efforts have kept our construction and operations costs down. The days of overcrowding, unsafe conditions, and old portables are gone.

2006 bond funds has saved millions for taxpayers. Recent audits show no problems and though we have lost about $64 million in state funding over the past decade, we have been able to maintain a stable reserve balance for district emergencies.

We are excited about all of the possibilities ahead of us. Thank you for your continued support.
Tom Seigel, Superintendent
