Principal's Message

THANK YOU to all the families that attended Open House!  We always like being able to put a face with the name and to establish positive relationships this early into the school year.  We had a great week of continuing our PBIS expectations lessons.  Students participated in their first evacuation drill and did fantastic!  Today we had a guest speaker, Collin Henderson, who spoke with our kids about mindset, goal setting, and being the best person that you can be!  He really pushed home about positive self talk and hanging out with friends that are going to bring out the best in you and not the worst.
Picking a student up from school?  Changing transportation for the day?:  If you need to call the school to make arrangements for your child to get picked up after school or to tell your child to ride the bus instead of getting a ride home, please do this by 1:00pm.  DO NOT wait until the very end of the day to call the office to relay the message.
Picture Make-Ups:  For students who did not attend Pride Day or have not had their picture taken and need a school ID/ASB card.  This day is not for retakes.
Math and Reading Support (Intervention) Classes:  If your child is in math or reading intervention classes, they were placed using STAR and SBA scores.  Those classes are to try to close the gap(s) and help the child be more successful in their classes.  Students can test out of the intervention classes at the trimesters and be moved into electives.  We highly encourage all students who have been identified as needing extra support to stay in those classes and not opt out.
Unified Bowling: The team practices at Paradise Bowl in Parkland on Fridays from 5pm-7pm. The season will be from September 15th-October 27th, and the large bowling tournament will be held at Pacific Lanes on October 29th. The bowling team is open to all students, contact Ms.Arceneaux if you have any questions at larceneaux@bethelsd.org
iPad Expectations:  Students must bring their iPad to school everyday.  iPads are treated as a required school material.  Students will be using iPads in most classes on a daily basis.  If students forget their iPads or have iPads that are not charged (iPads need to be charged at home), lunch detentions may be assigned.
STAR Assessments:  This week students will be taking Math and Reading STAR Assessments.  This score will help determine if students need additional support in reading or math.
Athletics and Fridays: Activity busses run Mon-Thur except for the first 2 Friday’s of a new sports season.  There will be practices and games on Friday’s so please make arrangements for transportation.
6th Grade Shots: Do not delay in ensuring your child receives the vaccinations they need to attend school this fall.  If your child is not current on their vaccinations or the necessary documentation provided they will be excluded from attending school on October 3rd for immunization non-compliance.  Washington State law requires that all children must have a completed Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) form on file and those attending 6th grade must show proof of having had the following vaccinations or current exemption:

Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) vaccination for all children 11 years and older.

Two doses of Varicella (chicken pox) vaccination or history of having had the disease verified by a healthcare provider.

Student Dress Code Reminder: Please make sure that belly shirts are not worn unless there is a shirt underneath to cover the stomach.
Please make sure your child does not chew gum at school.  Gum is not allowed as students put gum under tables, chairs, on the floor, etc.
Booster Meeting:  Booster club will be meeting every late arrival at 2:30.  Our Booster club helps recognize students and staff in our building as well as support students at dances, book fair, end of the year celebrations, etc.  Our first meeting is Sept. 27th.
