Principal's Message
-
December/January
Greetings Kapowsin Families,
Brrrr… Winter has definitely arrived. Please use extra caution when driving through the parent loop, parking lot, or walking up to the building. The district does an amazing job at snow
removal and ice control in our parking lot and parent loop, but there are no guarantees when it comes to mother nature. Likewise, Mrs. Avery does her best to keep our walkways clear and safe for students and adults, but sometimes the snow and can be too much to keep up with, especially in the early morning hours. Extra caution is always encouraged.
Recess… We will continue to have outdoor recess on most days so please make sure your students come to school with coats and shoes that fit the weather conditions (rain, snow, cold). When the temperatures drop below freezing, we may need to limit the amount of time that students spend outdoors. When this occurs, indoor recess will allow students to have time to interact and play, but without the concern for frozen noses, ears, fingers or toes.
Holiday Cheer… The holiday season can sometimes cause students to overflow with excitement. In the weeks leading up to as well as in the weeks following our Winter Break there is often an uptick in student behavior concerns. Rest assured that we will continue to remind students and reteach expected behaviors as we head into and return from winter break. Please reach out to us if there is anything we can do to support your or your student around the holiday season.
PTA… I would like to join with our PTA board members and encourage family members to get involved with our PTA and their efforts to support teachers and students. The last few years
have seen a significant drop in PTA volunteers and as a result many activities including Student Store, Popcorn Fridays, and even our Family Bingo Night have not yet recovered from the COVID shutdown. Please consider volunteering any support you can to keep our PTA’s going strong and able to provide the activities and supports that benefit all of our students.
All of us here at Kapowsin wish you the happiest of holiday seasons, and we hope that the new year brings you and your family all of the goodness that you deserve.
