Spanaway Elementary School

DEDICATED TO EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION

Principal's Message

    Hello, Jaguar families!

To all of our current and future Jaguars, we are a place of social, emotional, and academic growth. We work hard to support students' learning needs by creating an environment where they feel safe and loved and know that mistakes are part of the learning process. Students at Spanaway Elementary are problem-solvers; they can share their voices when a conflict happens so that we all learn the impact our decisions have on others in our school community.

We look forward to starting this school year, getting to know your child as an individual, and meeting the needs of all of our Jaguars in partnership with you and our community!

    To our JAGUARS...

We believe in you. We are here for you. You are capable of great things. You are respected. You are listened to. You are unique. You are worth it. We expect great things. We will never give up on you. We care about you. Your success is our success. We are in this together.

Jaguars...YOU are the reason we are here!

     What's our motto?

    Jaguars, STRIVE and RISE!

Here's to an amazing year at Spanaway Elementary!

    Dear Spanaway Elementary School Community,

I’m honored to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal of Spanaway Elementary, home of the Jaguars! I’m incredibly grateful to be given the opportunity to serve alongside the entire Spanaway Elementary community as we work to help students achieve their goals.

I’m originally from Pennsylvania, where I met my wife in college. We have both been educators since 2015 when we began our teaching careers in North Carolina. In 2017, we moved to the PNW and both began teaching for Tacoma Public Schools while I obtained my master’s degree from Central Washington University. From 2020-22 I began my pathway to administration as a Dean of Students in Tacoma and received my principal certification from the University of Washington, Tacoma.

We have fallen in love with the community we’ve discovered here. I continue to be amazed at what our regional environment has to offer, and what we all have to offer one another.

The rural community I grew up in was small, but laser-focused on helping one another with the resources they had. Whenever one person was in need, many were willing to help and give however they could. I believe our Spanaway Elementary community shares the same spirit and drive to help one another.

I’m so excited to meet you and get to know each of your students who walk through the doors of our school. Together, we can have the honor of helping our Jaguars strive and rise!

    Sincerely,

    Rob Hurst
    Assistant Principal
    Spanaway Elementary
