Can you believe we are already starting the last trimester this year. Time is running short for getting students ready for the SBA. We only have 6 weeks before we start testing on May 7. We are working hard to make sure your child is prepared to do his/her very best this year. We look forward to seeing how well they do!

    Principal, LMS

YOUTH TRUTH SURVEY: Please take the time to give us feedback on we are doing as a school. The survey is completely anonymous, available in several languages and takes approximately 15 minutes. Results of this survey help shape our school as we focus on the areas of greatest need.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS:  District competition on March 19, 7pm at Elk Plain. Come support your fellow students. The competition last week was fantastic and close. Our students are ready to represent us well.

6th GRADE FIELD TRIP:  A reminder that on Tuesday, 6th graders will taking a trip to visit a tech college. You may be asked to cover classes for someone during a time when all of your students are 6th graders.

WINTER 2 SOCIAL:  This Thursday is our next social. Games, dancing and all out fun are in store for those who attend. Just $4 with ASB and $6 without. We are hoping to see everyone there!

1st ANNUAL JAZZ FESTIVAL: We will host over 20 middle school bands for performances and clinics with three distinguished judges. In addition, we are hosting an evening concert featuring Los Angeles-based Saxophonist Dan Kaneyuki and the Swing Reunion Jazz Orchestra. The festival will run from 7:40am-5:30pm. The evening concert will begin at 7:30pm. Tickets will be sold at the door. Suggested Donations - $10 Adults; $5 students/seniors.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES (repeat):  Both the yearbook and leadership applications are available this week for students going into 8th grade. The deadline to return them is March 29th. If your child is interested in being a part of either of these teams, please have them contact Ms. Bale (Yearbook) and/or Ms. Heltsley (Leadership).

REWARDS CENTER (repeat):  Starting 3rd trimester, we are going to have a weekly rewards center for students at lunches. They will have the opportunity to “purchase” items with BOLTS bucks they earn from teachers throughout the week. If you would like to donate, please contact Stephanie Lewis at 253-683-6588.

    • Now that voters have approved a bond to build new schools, there is a light at the end of the overcrowded tunnel, and boundaries will NOT need to be shifted simply to spread out the crowds in the 2019/20 school year. That said, there may be a small change this summer ... read more at

    • The News Tribune published a nice breakdown of our bond construction plans for the coming years.

    • District leaders are now putting together “equity teams” at each school to ensure every child is given the best, most equitable education possible.

    • Right At School Before and After Care is still accepting new enrollments for the 2018/19 school year. There are still 4 months of fun, games, enrichment and exercise to go! Register today at

Our school has been selected to participate in the 2019 Student Travel Survey by the Washington State Departments of Transportation and Health. Parents of children in K – 8th grade may get a call to take the short survey. We encourage parents to participate, as the results will help improve student transportation. However, if you do not want to be called, please contact the Department of Health at 1-833-256-4654 and leave your phone number and name of your child’s school to remove yourself from the contact list.
