• Hello incoming 6th Graders and Families,

This email includes several pieces of important information for this summer and helping you get prepared for this fall so please make sure to read it in its entirety.

Thank you again for the fantastic turnout for our 6th Grade Family Orientation. Below you'll find a link to the presentation from that night with all the information that was shared during the presentation portion. You are welcome to click on the videos of the teachers available (please be aware that the videos were recorded last year so there are some dated references). It is an interactive presentation so make sure you look for and click on all the links that are underlined or pointed to!

Here is the slideshow from our orientation night: 6th Grade Family Orientation.

I also wanted to let you know that we will be running our Summer Bridges Program, Cougar Camp, at the end of August on the 24th, 25th, and 26th. This is a 6th grade orientation, for your students only, where they will ride the bus to school or be dropped off each day. Once at Cougar Mountain, they will spend 3 days getting ready for the school year. These days will be filled with fun activities to get to know each other, the school, how we do things here at Cougar Mountain Middle School, and ultimately to make sure you're as ready as ever to start the year off in a positive and successful way! Our goal is for 100% of our incoming 6th graders to participate. If you missed the opportunity to register before the link to sign-up is below.

Paid meal service resume this fall

At the conclusion of the 2021-22 school year, the USDA pandemic feeding waivers that allowed us to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students are set to expire.

This means we will be returning to a paid meal service this fall under USDA’s National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Meals will be charged according to a student’s free, reduced, or paid meal eligibility status.

The Free and Reduced Price Meal application will be available in late August for families to apply.

With that said, the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) does allow schools with high numbers of low-income children to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students.

There are nine (9) schools in our district that meet the requirements for CEP. All students enrolled in the following CEP eligible schools will receive free meals for the 2022-23 school year:

    • Bethel Acceleration Academy
    • Bethel Middle School
    • Camas Prairie Elementary
    • Challenger High School
    • Evergreen Elementary
    • Centennial Elementary
    • Spanaway Elementary
    • Spanaway Middle School
    • Thompson Elementary

There is a possibility that additional schools will be added to the list at a later date.
