Principal's Message

  • A Message from Our Principal

I hope this message finds you well. The purposes of this message are to let you begin to get to know me, and for me to share my beliefs and expectations about our partnership.

I am a proud father of two children. Shelby, my daughter, is a 22-year old nursing student. Derek, my son, is a 20-year old junior at UW.

Professionally, my experiences continue to grow (I just learned this great way to say, “I’m getting older”). I taught elementary-age children for 10 years in South Seattle, was principal of Camas Prairie Elementary in Bethel School District for twelve years, and am in my fourth year of serving the Naches Trail community.

You will find that I am driven by some core beliefs:

*I am responsible for ensuring that every child in my care receives the time and support they need in order to develop the talents and skills required to succeed in their futures.

*I am responsible for ensuring that every child in my care is physically, emotionally, and intellectually safe.

*Raising and teaching children is such a complex task that it can only be accomplished by all of the adults in their lives working together, and I am responsible for ensuring those partnerships happen.

I need some help from you in meeting this last belief. You are going to need to be active partners with me. You are going to need to attend to the information we send home, ask us questions, and share your insight and wishes.

Our children are my focus. However, I am wise enough to know that the only way to ensure they reach their unlimited potential is by working as partners. I promise you I will do my part, and I trust you will do your part.

Together, we will do great things for our kids.

    Warmly,

    Sean McKenzie

A Message from Our Assistant Principal

    Dear Trailblazer Families,

My name is Alicia Whitlow and it is with great honor I introduce myself as Naches Trail’s assistant principal. I am ecstatic to become a member of this amazing Trailblazer community. I look forward to working with Mr. McKenzie and the wonderful staff at Naches Trail to help all students become successful citizens and lifelong learners, prepared to flourish in the 21st century.

I am entering my 11th year in education. I spent 6 years as a classroom teacher and 3 years as a reading and math interventionist in a middle school in Federal Way. Last year I joined the Bethel community as an associate administrator at Spanaway Middle School. I’m pleased to be able to get to know each family and also to continue working with families I have built relationships with while I was at Spanaway Middle School.

Although this is my first year in an elementary school, I have a 3-year-old son who will be here soon and I know what skills students need to be successful in middle school. My goal as the assistant principal is to help our Trailblazers be Responsible, Respectful, and Ready to Learn. I am confident that our school will continue to be a place where our students can learn and grow academically and socially

I’m excited to begin this new adventure with you. Please feel free to stop in and say hello.

     Alicia Whitlow
