Principal's Message

  • ROY ELEMENTARY 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

     

    Welcome to the 2019-20 school year at Roy Elementary! At Roy, our mission is to have a school where there are no limits for the academic and social success of each student.  We are proud to work within a community that is so supportive of our efforts to promote student success. As we prepare to begin my third year within this building, I can say with confidence that the Roy staff is the most exceptional team I have had the pleasure of working with. Their instructional skills are fantastic and their commitment to each and every child is evident. Your child is a valued member of the Roy community and a valued member of their classroom where their individual strengths are appreciated, and their learning is accelerated.  Below you will find some important information as we prepare for the upcoming school year. 

     

    CLASS PLACEMENT AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES You will be notified of your child’s teacher/class placement via postcard the week of August 26th, at the Open House on Sept 4th and/or on the first day of school. 

    School supply lists are located on the Bethel website: https://www.bethelsd.org/Page/4351.   Every Roy Elementary School student will be supplied with most instructional materials (e.g. textbooks, workbooks, paper, pencils, crayons, etc.) necessary for their academic success. Families are only responsible for the key items listed on the bethel website.  We recognize children often like to bring their own supplies to supplement what we provide at school. Thank you in advance for sending any or all of these suggested supplies to school. Your contributions promote all children’s academic success. If possible, we request that you drop off donations of tissues, snacks, or other items at the Open House on September 4th at 4:30. 

     

    FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 (SEPTEMBER 10 FOR KINDERGARTEN) We know that many families will accompany their children to school on the first day and beyond. We value the time families are on campus, but we must also be mindful of the number of students and families on campus in the morning. Please make mornings successful by following these expectations:  

    Arrival: All students will enter the building through the main entrance. It is recommended that students arrive by 8:45 am if they plan on eating breakfast. We encourage parents to say good-bye to their students before they enter through the main entrance and not accompany them to the classrooms; however, we understand that there may be exceptions for the first day of school. Know that our staff will take great care to ensure every student makes it to their final destination.  Please note that school doors do not open until 8:40 am. Supervision is not available prior to 8:40 am.   

     

    GENERAL SCHOOL INFORMATION Our school office opens on August 22nd and will be open 9am-12pm & 1pm-3pm Mondays-Fridays. Please encourage your friends and neighbors, who are new to Roy, to register as soon as possible. Registration can be completed online. Please visit the website at https://www.bethelsd.org/enrollment or call 253.683.5100 for more information. Once the school year begins, our office is open 8:15 am-3:45 pm. You are welcome to stop by during these hours and/or call at 253.683.5100 if you have any questions or need assistance. School begins each day at 8:55 am with learning starting promptly at 9:00 am and ending at 3:30 pm Monday-Friday. Students may arrive at school beginning at 8:40 am for breakfast. 

     

    TRANSPORTATION The Bethel School District provides free transportation for students who reside within their school’s attendance area but outside their school’s walking boundary. The transportation department will mail home specific information about your child’s exact pick-up/drop-off location and times. Any questions or concerns about that information can be directed to the transportation department at 253.683.5900 

     

    UPCOMING EVENTS 

    August 27-30 9am-12pm Kinder Kamp

    All of our incoming Kindergarten students are invited to participate in a play-based kamp that will help inform class placement.  We like to ensure that all of our students are set up for success and paired with a teacher that will best support their learning.  Drop off begins at 8:50 outside the cafeteria and pick up is at 12 in the same location.

    September 4th 4:30pm-6:30pm Open House  

    We will begin our Open House with a brief presentation at 4:30 to review exciting information guiding our time together this year.  After the presentation, families can take a self-guided tour of Roy. 

    September 5, 8:55am-3:30pm First Day of School for 1st-5th Graders 

    Remember, all students should enter through the main doors. 

    September 10, 8:55am-3:30pm First Day of School - Kindergarten 

    Welcome kindergarteners!
