Kapowsin Elementary School

DEDICATED TO EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION

Principal's Message

    • February/March 2023

      Greetings Kapowsin Families,

It’s February… I know the phrase “time flies” is a well-known saying, but I just find it amazing
how fast it actually flies by. As we turn the corner into February, we find ourselves already
facing the halfway point of the 2022-23 school year. Our January benchmark testing window
has provided teachers with data that shows the areas where our students are responding and
making growth, as well as students’ areas of struggle that will continue to be a focus
      throughout the spring.

Report Cards… Following the end of the first semester, report cards should be visible to families
in ParentVue by February 14th. I encourage each parent to review your student’s academic
progress, read the teachers’ comments, and reach out to your student’s teacher with any
questions or concerns you might have. Our Spring conferences will take place the last week of
March, but there is no need to wait for conference week to ask questions or share important
information or insights about your student. I encourage parents and teachers to communicate
regularly and work together to establish and/or strengthen a network of learning supports that
strengthens the bridge between school and home.

Water Filling Station… I am thrilled to share that our new water bottle filling station is up and
running. It’s been a long road to get here, but the old hallway drinking fountains are finally
gone. They have been replaced with a much healthier and more sanitary option for students to
access drinking water throughout the day. Students and staff are now able to fill their water
bottles quickly and efficiently with fewer germs and less mess.

PTA… I would like to continue to encourage family members to get involved with our PTA and
their efforts to support teachers and students. Our board members work hard to support our
students and recognize our teachers, but they cannot do it alone. Thank you for supporting our
PTA and their efforts to connect staff, students, and families, and please consider volunteering
any support you can to keep our PTA going strong.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Kapwosin Elementary.

      David Cordell
      Principal
