Principal's Message

  • Dear Kapowsin Families:

Well, Snowmageddon 2020 has come and gone, and at least the Graham area was able to avoid the heavy snowfall that was predicted in January.  Hopefully the slight snowfall that we did get will be the only weather issue we will have to deal with this winter (fingers crosses). Remember to always check the district’s web page if you suspect there may be any school changes due to weather.

On January 31, we officially turned the corner into the 2nd half of the school year.  January is a big month for teachers and administrators to monitor student learning.  Because it is the half-way point of the school year, students’ scores for STAR (Math & Reading) and Dibels will be used to help us not only determine how each student is currently performing, but also to assess the amount of growth that each student has made throughout the first semester.

January is also a great time to check up on students’ progress toward their Accelerated Reader (AR) goals.  Students should be roughly half-way to their yearly point goal. Have a conversation with your student about their efforts and success in reading and taking AR tests.  Reading is a great nightly activity for students and families.

You may have noticed a new fence and gates installed at each end of the building.  This is both a security and a safety upgrade for the playground. The fencing will help ensure that visitors check in through the main office before heading out to the playground.  The plan is for the pedestrian gates to remain unlocked outside of school hours to allow Bethel Rec and families continued access to the walking track, field and playground equipment.  If at any time you have questions about the security of the building or student safety, I invite you to reach out to me and share your thoughts and concerns.

We are looking forward to a great 2nd half of the school year. Thank you for your ongoing efforts to help our students be at school, be on time, and be prepared to learn.

    David M. Cordell
