Emergency Substitute (E-Sub) Teacher Program

Have you thought of becoming a teacher, but are lacking a WA State teaching credential?

Bethel Schools is looking for motivated people who want to make a difference in the lives of children and are excited about exploring the teaching profession as Emergency Substitute Teachers.

Difference between Emergency Substitute & Regular Substitute Teachers

An Emergency Substitute Teacher is one who does not currently have a WA State Teaching certificate; these individuals are typically 'career-changers' looking to explore the teaching profession but have not completed a teaching program/been issued their teaching certificate.

Regular Substitute Teachers are those individuals who have completed a teacher preparation program and obtained their Washington State Teaching certificate.

However, both subsitute teacher types serve in the same capacity.

NOTE: E-Subs are not eligible for long-term substitute positions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with children in an instructional capacity;
4-year degree verifiable per unofficial transcripts (AAs may be considered on a case-by-case basis);
- If currently enrolled in teacher-prep program, candidates who've completed a considerable amount may be considered -- though must still hold a degree
  - OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS will be required if hired
- Those who've passed the ParaPro Assessment may be considered.
Availability and desire to work on a consistent basis -- minimum 4 times a month, AND
NOT CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY BETHEL SCHOOLS

E-SUB TEACHER RATE

RATES FOR THE 23/24 SY ARE PENDING BARGAINING. UPDATED INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED ONCE THE NEW CBA IS FINALIZED.

Fridays.......................................Full Day: $200.00 | Half Day: $100.00

Training

Prior to your first substituting assignment, the District will provide access to a self-paced training module to support new Emergency Substitute Teachers.

The training is designed to benefit you in being successful in the areas of Substitute Teacher Basics, Classroom Management, and Discipline and Instruction, and Confidentiality. The training takes approximately More specifically:

Introduction to Being a Substitute Teacher
Making Connections and a Good Impression
The First 30 Seconds
Being an Effective Classroom Manager
Communication in the School
Effective Classroom Discipline
Active Learning
Learning Styles and Strategies

Additionally, all employees are required to complete the annual SafeSchools training.

Completion of the above trainings are mandatory prior to the start of substitute teaching.

Approved candidates can expect to set aside 8 hours to complete the required trainings. Approved candidates will be paid a full-days rate ($140) after completion of trainings.

E-Sub positions are posted throughout the year. New postings open the day after an E-Sub training and typically close within 2-3 weeks. Postings close at 5pm on the day of closing.
