Elementary Battle of the Books

This program will give students increased interaction with literature and opportunities to discuss the books they have read. Additional benefits include working together as a team, learning to handle high-pressure situations, speaking before an audience, and setting goals for success. 

• Books on the list are nominated for awards (Sasquatch, Towner, YRCA, Newbery). 
• Librarians read and research the books (text complexity, reading level, genre, content, age recommendations).
• Librarians meet to discuss which books should be included, making sure choices support inclusivity for all.

Topics may cover many areas:

• Belonging
• Neurodivergent individuals and ways of thinking
• Racial and cultural diversity
• Diversity of social, political, economic or religious viewpoints
• Gender representation or sexual orientation 
• Social Emotional Learning
