Top 5 things YOU need to know about changes to middle and high school grading in Fall 2024

All assignments and assessments will be graded using a common four-point rubric.
Only the student's overall grade will use letter grades. There are no more pluses and minuses or D grades—just A, B, C, and F using a common grading scale.
The current calculation for GPA will not change.
Extra credit will no longer be available.
Assessment retakes will be available.

The purpose of Standards Based Instruction and Grading (SBIG) is to communicate a student’s progress toward mastery of academic standards using practices that are accurate, equitable, and motivating.

ACCURATE: Grades reflect true learning progress, utilizing common scales, recent performances, and aligned rubrics.
EQUITABLE: Assessment evidence is unbiased, focusing solely on academic content, with multiple assessments to ensure fairness.
MOTIVATING: SBIG fosters a growth mindset by offering opportunities for improvement and feedback.
TRANSPARENT: Grades are easily understandable and accessible, with clear rubrics and regular updates. This ensures students and families know what the next step is in student learning.
SUCCESS SKILLS: While not part of grades, skills such as being a self manager, having a learner's mindset, and working well with others are communicated separately, allowing students to connect habits with academic performance.
