Preschool Interest Form

Early learning full day programs and pay to go classrooms are filled for the 2023/24 school year.

Applications for the 2024/25 school year will open in the spring.

The following Early Learning programs are offered in the Bethel School District:

ECEAP 
Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) is a "whole child," comprehensive, family-focused preschool program that provides FREE services and support to eligible children and their families. The goal of ECEAP is to help ensure all children enter kindergarten ready to succeed.

Special Education
Inclusive special education preschool means teaching all children together, regardless of ability level. Inclusive programs celebrate children’s similarities as well as their different abilities and cultures. In inclusive classrooms, children with special needs take part in the general education curriculum based on their ages, where the curriculum and the room are adapted to meet children’s needs. Bethel offers a continuum of special education services, including inclusive classrooms to meet the individual needs of students.

Pay to Go
Pay to Go/Tuition based preschool is an early learning program for students that will be age 4 by August 31, 2023. Learn more by clicking here.

Transitional Kindergarten (English and Dual Language)
This FREE, full day, early learning program will provide a supportive environment, focus on social and emotional development, physical and motor development, as well as academic skills needed to prepare your child for a successful start to Kindergarten.


Early learning classes are located at the following locations:

  • Bethel Hope Early Learning Center

  • Pioneer Valley
  • Spanaway
  • Naches Trail
  • Elk Plain

Early learning programs serve preschool children with birth dates between 9/1/2018 - 8/31/2020. Classes are offered in both half day or full day formats. There is a Dual Language option for four-year-olds. There are limited openings.

Kindergarten Registration

To enter kindergarten, a child must be five years old on or before August 31. Your child should register before the first day of school at your home school.

What if my child is ready for kindergarten, but turns 5 years old just after the August 31 cut-off?

A special application and entrance testing process exists to grant kindergarten enrollment to a student that turns 5 between the dates of September 1 and October 31 and who demonstrate significantly advanced scores in multiple domains when compared to kindergarten peers.   The process for this early entrance request is:

PHASE 1: NOTIFICATION & APPLICATION

  1. Notification: Contact the Assessment & Highly Capable Office at 253.800.2090 by June 1 of the preceding year to receive the phase 1 application documents.
  2. Application Documents: Families will complete and submit the following application documents by June 16:
    1. Application of Interest
    2. Preschool teacher referral
  3. Phase 1 Determination: By June 30, families will receive notification of whether the student qualifies to move on to Phase 2.

PHASE 2:  TESTING & PLACEMENT

  1. Schedule Testing:  The assessment office will coordinate the scheduling for student testing to occur in early August.

  2. Administer Testing: Students will be given a 1 on 1 assessment covering the domains of mental ability, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, visual discrimination, social/emotional development, and language development.  Parents will remain outside of the testing room.

  3. Parent Notification of Placement Decision: Parents will be notified of the placement decision by August 31 or before school starts (whichever comes first). All decisions are final with no appeal process.

  4. Review of Student Progress: Student progress with this placement will be reviewed no later than the fall parent-teacher conferences.

  • Clover Creek Elementary: May 21st from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Elk Plain School of Choice: May 8 at 5:00 p.m.
  • Evergreen Elementary: May 29th from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Expedition Elementary: May 15th at 5:30 p.m. (Virtual)
  • Frederickson Elementary: May 16th at 5:30 p.m.
  • Graham Elementary: May 30th from 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Kapowsin Elementary: May 7th from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Katherine G. Johnson Elementary: May 21st at 5:30 p.m.
  • Naches Trail Elementary: May 21st at 5:30 p.m.
  • Nelson Elementary: May 15th from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • North Star Elementary: May 15th from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Pioneer Valley Elementary: May 3rd at 4:15 p.m.
  • Rocky Ridge Elementary: May 15th from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Roy Elementary: May 16th at 6:00 p.m.
  • Shining Mountain Elementary: May 2nd from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Spanaway Elementary: May 14th from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  • Thompson Elementary: May 21st at 5:30 p.m.
