Immigration Resources for Families
All students: Empowered, safe, supported, and connected.
As Interim Superintendent, I am proud to lead this dynamic, diverse, and ever-evolving district that has served our community well for the past 75 years.
I believe that our mission, as a foundation of our Strategic Plan, states our place in the community well:
“The Mission of the Bethel School District is to provide a safe educational environment that embraces the individual needs of each student, engages each student in a rigorous, well-rounded instructional program, and prepares each student for lifelong learning and productive civic engagement.”
There’s one word that stands out to me in both of the above statements: Safe.
I understand that many of our immigrant students, staff and families have concerns about their safety and their future. I want to reinforce that our schools are safe places for students and staff.
Policy 3226 reinforces that, “the work of immigration agents does not overlap with the work or duties of the district.” It goes on to say that, “staff shall not grant information or access to immigration agents unless / until the district Superintendent and / or General Counsel determine the request complies with Plyler v. Doe and other applicable laws according to the criteria in the associated procedure.” Also see Policy 4300.
You belong in Bethel. You are seen in Bethel. As a district, we remain committed to the safety, education, and future opportunities for ALL students.
