Welcome Back to School!
Dear Spanaway Middle School Families,
I would like to take the time, on behalf of the entire faculty and staff, to welcome you to a new school year filled with hopes and dreams. As I begin my first year at Spanaway Middle School, I am particularly grateful for our outstanding staff that is dedicated to the success of each student. I am eager to see many of you during the first weeks of school so we can partner in making sure each day is successful for your child(ren). It was great meeting many of you at our Warrior Nights last week. We would love to continue building partnerships throughout the year.
This summer we have had many hours of discussion centered on how staff and families can work together to ensure that our students are reaching their fullest potential. Our staff is committed to making sure each child has the opportunity to succeed by establishing school-wide expectations throughout our school. We will be teaching, modeling, and reinforcing expected behaviors throughout the year. We will ask parents to support us as we communicate ways we can work together. One exciting way we would like to involve families is through our WATCH DOGS program.
In late September we will be notifying all parents about an exciting way to involve our dads in our school. WATCH DOGS stands for Dads of Great Students. This is an opportunity to get our dads involved in our school. We are excited to begin this journey with you. We also do not want this to be only for our dads. If you are a mom and want to be involved, we welcome you, too. If you would like to know more about this outstanding program, please go to http://www.fathers.com/watchdogs/
We will be sending out a date for an orientation soon. Please stay tuned!
Each year brings positive change. We are excited to welcome some new staff here at Spanaway Middle School:
We are fortunate to have a wealth of experience and knowledge joining our outstanding, dedicated staff.
Many of you will ask why we are so focused on attendance here at Spanaway Middle School. Did you know that every absence, excused or unexcused, is a learning opportunity lost and can have significant impacts on a student’s success in school and life? A student who misses 10% or more of their school days, which amounts to 18 or more days in a school year (or just two days a month), for any reason is considered chronically absent. Chronically absent students are more likely to fall behind in reading and math and less likely to graduate from high school. Here at Spanaway, our goal is to get every student across the stage for graduation. Please help us in achieving our goal by getting your child to school. Every Student, On Time, Every Day!
Thank you for your commitment to your child(ren). In working together, we can help make this a great year for everyone!
